Sydenham Hill | London | Sony A7RIV
On the somewhat cloudy evening of 2025's lunar eclipse, I took a walk up Sydenham Hill, hoping to catch it at a low angle. Meeting multiple families along the way, there was a palpable feeling of excitement, tempered by the obvious impediment of the clouds.
When it became apparent that the cloud cover wasn't going to clear in the necessary direction, I walked back to the roundabout at the top of Sydenham Hill, to make the best of the glorious colours that were hanging over central. I'd noticed that the leaves framed the contours of the buildings nicely, and hoped to capture that.
Multiple people stopped to ask what I was doing, or to inform me that I was looking the wrong way, or just to have a chat.
London is often viewed as a cold and unfriendly place, but on occasions like this - where people are away from the stress of their commute - there is a thread of community that runs deep.
